"Love Thy Neighbour" (1972-1976)
Length: 30-45 minutes | Episodes: 54x30mins, 1x45mins | Channel: ITV
'Love Thy Neighbour' was a hugely un-politically correct comedy show that was in fact, reasonably long running, running for four years on ITV.
The basic plot of the show was that a socialist, pub-going, nationalistic character, Eddie Booth (played by Jack Smethurst) lived a normal life with his wife Joan (Kate Williams.) Until one day their new neighbours move in and to their surprise they are West Indian. (Try to remember this was a comedy show!)
A few selective episodes have been screened on UK Gold, but it is unlikely that the whole series will be shown again. However at the time the show was a huge success and over fifty episodes were commissioned and in fact a spin off feature film was also produced in 1973.
In recent years the show has been greatly criticised for it's stereotyping, but in truth was one of ITV's most successful comedy...
