The first Saturday morning children's magazine show, that featured cartoons, pop music and phone-in competitions. 'Multi Coloured Swap Shop' has been used as a template for many future Saturday magazine shows such as 'Live & Kicking,' or 'Fully Booked.'

What was unique to Swap Shop was that it had an ongoing swapping theme. Members of the public were invited to phone in with toys or games they wanted to swap along with the item they were looking for in return. Keith Chegwin would also go out and about asking the public to take part in a swap. Celebrities were also asked to donate items for swaps.

Only planned for a six week run, the show lasted for six years. Swap Shop was hosted by Keith Chegwin, Maggie Philbin, John Craven and the man who really made his name from Swap Shop, Noel Edmonds.
